Before boarding a dog with one of DogBuddy’s trusted Dog Sitters, it’s always a great idea to schedule a Meet and Greet as this allows the Dog Owner and Sitter to meet each other, but most importantly to ensure a soft transition for your pup should you decide to book with a particular host.
Here are DogBuddy’s furry tips:
Meet in Public: if possible meet at a neutral location, this is to prevent any potential resident dog from becoming territorial. A neutral location also allows the guest dog to find their natural place in the pack, which is especially important if other dogs will be present in the Dog Sitters home.
Ask Questions: a Meet and Greet is the paw-fect time to learn more about a guest dog’s health, diet, behavioral history and other needs. It’s also a great opportunity to discuss what the Dog Sitter and the Dog Owner will provide (e.g. tags, leash and collar) for the duration of the Home Dog Boarding stay. Remember to get each other’s contact details.
Tip for Sitters: look at tags and collars and ensure that they are legible, fit correctly and do not slip over the dog’s head easily. This is key as a Guest Dog may behave differently in a new environment even if he or she normally behaves well!
Family and Friends: if you decide to bring a friend, partner or family member with you to a Meet and Greet, out of courtesy, please let the Dog Owner or Dog Sitter know.
